Garth Brooks‘ daughter Allie‘s tribute to late singer Dolly Parton has caused some confusion among fans.

The “Jolene” hitmaker passed away on Tuesday, August 25, at 80 years old and Allie, 30, shared a message on Instagram that day relating the public reaction to Parton’s death to how it will be for Garth, 64, when he passes away one day.

“My greatest fear in life is the day my Dad loses his life and I have to see the world mourn a man they never knew the way I knew him,” she wrote. “To the personal family and friends of Mrs. Dolly, you have all my love and condolences today and forever going forward.”

Fans took to the comments section, with some agreeing with her point of view and others puzzled by what she meant.

“Maybe I’m confused? How is this a good way of putting it? No one is allowed to be sad except the family? That’s wild,” one wrote.

Allie responded, “this is my account — I am saying I don’t know how to respond to these things in my industry because of my life experiences. I’m not telling anyone else how to grieve. I’m just acknowledging the family. You do you babe.”

A second person added, “We will mourn the loss, never in the way you will. Just know that all of us may have gone through that before and we will understand your pain ☹️.”

However, Allie disagreed.

Another person acknowledged Allie’s perspective, confessing, “I never thought about this. As a family member of a legend how can those of us on the outside best show our support and love?”

“I don’t know how to answer this – but it is a very kind question 💜,” Allie wrote back. “For me – personally, allow me to grieve privately and personally,” she replied. “I don’t need support from the world when my world ends… my siblings and my moms and I can handle it together 💜 but it is kind of you to offer such support.”

Garth shares Allie with his ex-wife, Sandy Mahl, along with daughters Taylor, 34, and August, 32. He and Mahl ultimately split in 2001, and the “Friends in Low Places” singer married fellow musician Trisha Yearwood in 2005.

“I don’t think you will.. I would never relate to you losing your father – I don’t know how you would relate to mine,” she responded. “Kind of exactly what I am talking about 💜.”

“What a huge, beautiful, special life to have loved and to grieve 💜,” Allie concluded. “Thank you for sharing her with us all.”
