JD Vance’s strange diet that led to significant weight loss exposed
Vice President JD Vance has lost a considerable amount of weight over the years, and it was revealed that he is taking diet advice from Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Since Vance joined President Donald Trump during the 2024 election cycle, he has looked visibly slimmer compared to his time in the Ohio Senate. He worked hard to keep the weight, as he detailed in a 2024 interview with the Daily Mail, saying he skipped breakfast, exercised frequently, and ate healthier as part of his weight-loss routine. At the time, he shared that he had lost 30 pounds.
Now, the U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary shared at an America First Policy Institute (AFPI) event that Vance is actually on the same diet as him.

“I went on a carnivore diet with ferment, so I eat fermented vegetables and fermented yogurt — anything fermented —and meat,” Kennedy said. “Within 30 days, I lost 20 pounds.”
“JD Vance is also on that diet, and you can see how different he looks,” Kennedy revealed, adding that “several other members of the cabinet are also on it.”
This isn’t the first time that Vance’s diet has been discussed. In fact, the vice president has shared his strange diet on previous occasions.
In an interview with NBC News, Vance described the “crazy diet” he was prescribing to himself during the Catholic season of Lent, as he said it came at Kennedy’s recommendation.
He said the diet consisted of “a lot of protein” and “fermented foods writ large, so, you know, yogurt, cheese, and things like that.”
Vance, an adult Catholic convert, explained that Kennedy’s fermented diet is something he was continuing beyond the 40 days of Lent, a time when many Christians fast in the lead-up to Easter.
“I think it definitely made me feel healthier, and it’s something I’ve continued with,” Vance told NBC News. “So, you know, that’s one of the cool things about Lent, is sometimes you do these things as an act of sacrifice, and you realize that not indulging yourself is maybe a very good thing.”
Even Trump has noticed Vance’s weight loss transformation, as he commented on it during an Easter lunch earlier this year.
“He’s lost weight. He got a little thinner,” Trump said at the time. “I’m looking for a heavy-set gentleman, and now I find a perfect-looking specimen.
What are the health benefits of eating fermented foods?
The details of JD Vance’s fermented diet at Kennedy’s advice come as the health secretary unveiled new federal dietary guidelines earlier this year, with a new focus on protein and dairy in the inverted food pyramid.
Fermented foods can be a good source of probiotics as they contain live bacteria that support gut health. According to Healthline, citing research, probiotics have several health benefits, such as better digestion, improved immunity, and even weight loss.
Examples of fermented foods include kefir (cultured dairy product), tempeh, natto, kombucha, miso, kimchi, probiotic yogurt, and sauerkraut. Each fermented food has varying health benefits.
The Mayo Clinic also detailed that incorporating prebiotics and probiotics in your diet can be a way to maintain a healthy gut, which can aid in creating a healthy microbiome — the microorganisms covering the lining of your digestive tract. The microbiome plays a role in overall health.
“A healthy microbiome promotes a healthy immune system and supports a weight management plan,” the Mayo Clinic stated.
