Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channels Exilenova+ and Supernova reported explosions and drone activity in the area.

Local residents also reported hearing air defenses operating over Kaspiysk. It was not immediately clear which facility was targeted or whether the attack caused damage.

Russian authorities had not provided details on the consequences of the attack at the time of publication.

Kaspiysk is an important naval and logistics hub for Russia and hosts facilities used by the Russian Navy’s Caspian Flotilla.

The flotilla has previously operated ships capable of launching Kalibr cruise missiles.

Dagestan targeted repeatedly in September

Ukraine’s Defense Forces previously struck the Makhachkala Commercial Seaport in Dagestan overnight into Sept. 10, Ukraine’s General Staff later confirmed.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces had struck eight Russian infrastructure facilities supporting Moscow’s war effort across six Russian regions within 24 hours.

Among the targets were the Makhachkala port in Dagestan and an oil refinery in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets region, as well as facilities in the Moscow, Voronezh, Astrakhan and Bryansk regions.

Makhachkala Commercial Seaport is Russia’s only ice-free deep-water port on the Caspian Sea and operates year-round. It is an important transport and logistics hub, including for routes connecting Russia and Iran.

Ukraine has also repeatedly targeted Russian naval assets in Kaspiysk.

On May 7, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that its forces struck a Project 22800 Karakurt-class small missile ship at the Kaspiysk naval base.

Ships of the Karakurt class can carry and launch Kalibr cruise missiles.

Later in May, Ukrainian forces reported additional strikes against Russian naval vessels at the same base.
