Haysville Marine and his wife sentenced to prison for child pornography charges

A Haysville Marine and his wife have been sentenced to serve more than 10 years each in prison after police found dozens of images and videos of child pornography on the couples’ cellphones.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children received a tip in July 2024 from Kik, a mobile messaging application, that a user had uploaded dozens of sexually explicit files of children, according to a probable cause affidavit.

A detective with the Wichita Police Department obtained a search warrant for the data associated with the Kik account and determined that the IP address matched that of 28-year-old Gavin Onuffer, a Haysville man and maintenance chief for the United States Marine Corps, a U.S. Attorney’s Office press release and Onuffer’s LinkedIn said. The search also yielded 17 more files of children engaging in sex acts.

Haysville wife sent husband child porn that he saved in secret phone folder, feds say

Toward the end of April, Onuffer and his wife, 22-year-old Addilynn Onuffer, were interviewed by police, a complaint filed in federal court said. He told investigators that he had heard of Kik and had received child porn while online, but that he would delete the content and block the user when it was sent to him. His wife, however, told police something different.

She told detectives that she had Kik and used it to exchange child porn, the court document said. She also said that she and her husband had watched porn on their phones together and that “she likes to roleplay as a child during sex,” the affidavit said.

The couple’s phones were seized by police, and were later found to contain additional files with imagery of child sexual exploitation sent via Discord. More than 351 files were found in a password-protected folder in Gavin Onuffer’s phone, a majority of which were sexual in nature, an affidavit in the case said.

Several of the files were discovered to have been sent by Addilynn to Gavin because he “wanted to receive the images,” her plea agreement said.

Addilynn Onuffer was arrested and pleaded guilty to one count of distributing child pornography, while Gavin Onuffer pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography, both felony charges.

She was sentenced to 160 months, about 13 years and four months, in May. On Tuesday, he was sentenced to serve a little over 10 years in prison.

“People who take pleasure in viewing, creating, or distributing images of little children being sexual exploited are a danger to our society and belong behind bars,” U.S. Attorney Ryan Kriegshauser said in a statement. “We ask the public that if you know someone who engages in this type of behavior to please make a report to law enforcement.”
