The Dutch content creator maintained a following of nearly 10,000 on Instagram, where she was known for sharing her cosplay creations

Daraya Koedjoe, a Dutch cosplay content creator, died on Oct. 26, her Instagram account announced on Saturday, Oct. 31. She was 26.

“Dear creative community, with a broken heart we regret to inform you about the untimely passing of our dear friend, cosplay enthusiast, and beloved community member Daraya Koedjoe AKA Darayacos,” read the Oct. 31 post, which was made in collaboration with several other cosplay creators.

Koedjoe maintained a following of nearly 10,000 on Instagram, where she was known for sharing her cosplay creations. She would frequently post from cosplay conventions alongside several of her friends in the cosplay community. Per a GoFundMe launched by her friends, she also worked as a social worker at the nonprofit Stichting Leergeld, where she supported children who lived in vulnerable home situations.

“Daraya contributed to the lives of others via remarkable generosity and artistic excellence,” the post announcing her death further noted. “A legacy that we are proud of and will continue to uphold.”

“She passed away unexpectedly on Monday October 26th. We are devastated and will miss her dearly,” added the GoFundMe description: “If you ever met Daraya, you would be instantly sparked by her bubbly personality and cheerful smile, as she would light up every room she walked into. Her involvement in local and international creative and cosplay communities, together with her strong sense of justice, left a lasting impact we will never forget.”

As of Nov. 2, the GoFundMe had raised over $10,000. Friends said in the description that any funds raised above their goal would be donated to Stichting Leergeld and a Dutch suicide prevention hotline.

Dararay last updated her social media accounts on Oct. 3, sharing details about a cosplay convention she had contributed to. In the comments of her final posts, fans shared tributes to the late internet personality.

“the world has lost such a beautiful wonderful soul, may you rest ❤️” posted one.

Penned a third: “Rest in peace beautiful ❤️”

Friends and family are planning to hold a funeral for Koedjoe on Nov. 5, which will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person, per the post announcing her death.
