CNN like many other outlets have reported that according to the latest Consumer Price Index inflation has risen to an annual rate of 3.7% which is higher than expected. Inflation has been a point of conversation in the past few months and has contributed to the Trump’s historically low approval ratings.

The majority of the price increase is from energy which includes gasoline and fuel. Late September, gasoline levels soared to a whole new level at nearly $4.50 a gallon, and climbed 9.1% for the month.

Gasoline reportedly accounts for over half of the overall of the monthly price increase, and is currently 34.2% over the past year.

Fuel oil (which specifically is used for example to heat homes) also surged astronomically, as it ascended to 15.3% in September, and 74.2% from last year.

The report also stated that there’s been “notable” increases over the last year that includes airline fares (+22.4%), recreation (+2.8%), medical care (+1.5%), and education (+3.8%).There were also price increases on food, which were smaller in comparison to gas and fuel. The price increases are largely a result of the US-Israel war on Iran. The two countries launched airstrikes on Iran in late February. Since then energy prices especially gas and fuel have risen.

According to data from the AAA, gas records remain at a record high for the fall and are presently over a dollar per gallon more than in 2025. Diesel, which gives power to domestic supply chain, had hit an all time high last month at nearly $6 dollars per gallon.

There have been a various numerous studies and polls over the past few months that have showed that Americans are struggling with the cost of living.

In a new study by the Pew Research Center, posted on Wednesday, that more than half of American said “do not have rainy day funds,” a quarter of Americans said they can’t fully pay their bills each month and 60% say they do not presently have enough income to lead the kind of life they want.
