Teens reportedly discovered their parents dead next to a hot tub at a rental property while on vacation in Spain.
A statement shared with PEOPLE from Spain’s Civil Guard on Wednesday, Aug. 26, confirmed the Irish couple, aged 45 and 50, were found dead in the coastal town of Cullera in Valencia.
The couple’s children discovered the bodies, the department added. The homicide squad is investigating, and there were no visible indications of violence.
The unidentified parents were found dead beside the hot tub at the Cap Blanc residential property in Cullera, The Times in the U.K. reported.
Investigators found apparent puncture wounds on their bodies, but say that could be the result of drug use rather than assault, according to the report.
In a statement to PEOPLE on Wednesday, Aug. 26, a spokesperson for Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that in response to media reports, the department “is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance in the case of the Irish citizen concerned.”
“As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases,” the spokesperson added.
According to the Irish Examiner, a Civil Guard spokesperson said that at this point in the investigation, “nothing has yet been ruled out.”
The victims’ children were taken to a hotel in Cullera, where they are expected to reunite with relatives, according to the Irish Independent.

Meanwhile, the couple’s bodies were brought to the Forensic Medicine Institute in Valencia for autopsies, the Irish Independent and The Times reported.
Cullera, which has a population of 25,000, is described on Spain’s official tourism website as “a summery resort,” that features “both a well-cared-for old town and the most modern installations and leisure developments for making the most of the sun and beach.”
