Our dearly beloved Lotus Emira soldiers on despite a difficult world for lightweight, mid-engined, manual-transmission sports cars–now with a snazzy new special edition: Scura.

Scura means “darkness” in Italian, which is just what this Emira embodies with blacked-out accents and a commitment to the goth aesthetic.

Why The Scura Name?

Scura, for the Lotus nerds, is a callback to the ultra-limited 2009 Exige Scura, which featured matte black paint and black accents. Much like that car, the Emira Scura is functionally an appearance package with no performance upgrades over the normal car. Its matte paint is called Satin Nebulous Grey, paired with a gloss-black roof, black wheels, black exterior trim, and red brake calipers.

Inside, the Emira Scura gets a healthy splash of black Alcantara with contrasting red stitching. The steering wheel is also red, as are the seat belts. As a bonus, you get “Scura” badging inside and out. Privacy glass is also standard, adding some tint to the cabin for even more darkness. In the renders, it even looks like the headlights and taillights are slightly smoked.

Otherwise, it is a normal Sport chassis Emira. It has the same suspension, Michelin Cup 2 tires, and KEF 10-speaker stereo. What is unclear is which engine the Emira Scura will receive. No specific reference was made to the Scura being exclusively V6-powered or turbocharged inline-four-powered. It could be that customers can choose, which means they should certainly choose the manual-only V6 over the dual-clutch four-banger.
