Former NFL star Mark Sanchez has reportedly reached a settlement in his civil lawsuit, which stemmed from a 2025 stabbing.

The Athletic reported on Oct. 13 that the agreement is currently in principle, meaning it hasn’t been signed by alleged victim Perry Tole. Indiana resident Tole will have his legal time file to dismiss the case by early next year, the publication claimed.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to Sanchez’s representative for comment.

Sanchez was arrested in October 2025, and subsequently charged with a felony, following an alleged altercation with Tole in Indianapolis. Sanchez was stabbed and transported to the hospital, where he was taken into police custody on battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication charges.

Court documents obtained by EW at the time stated that Tole was defending himself against Sanchez. Video footage from the interaction showed the former NFL quarterback walking up to the driver’s side of a box truck. He appeared to open the door and speak to a man inside before the altercation ensued, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Sanchez’s brother, Nick Sanchez, issued a statement on behalf of their family in the days following the incident.

“This has been a deeply distressing time for everyone involved,” the statement read, per NBC News. “Mark and our family are incredibly grateful for the concern, love, and support we’ve received over the past few days. Mark remains under medical care for the serious injuries he sustained and is focused on his recovery as the legal process continues. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the first responders and medical staff.”

The Indianapolis police chief later announced that Sanchez’s battery charge was upgraded to a felony. Wednesday’s report regarding the civil suit comes after Sanchez’s legal team filed a motion to plead guilty in the criminal case last month.

Sanchez played for the NFL for 10 seasons before his 2019 retirement. The athlete went on to work as an ESPN sports analyst until moving to Fox Sports in 2021. Following the 2025 altercation, Sanchez parted ways from the network.

“We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network,” a Fox Sports spokesperson told EW in a November 2025 statement. “There will be no further comment at this time.”
