Newlywed learns wife visited her ex, then comes a devastating confession

A newlywed husband says he is struggling to come to terms with a confession from his wife after she unexpectedly reconnected with her former partner, admitting she still loves him and continues to wonder what might have been.

“I still love her logically, but I feel an unusual emotional detachment,” the man said in a Reddit post on October 13. “If she walked in tomorrow and told me she saw her ex again, I feel like I could just walk away and stop caring.

“That is completely unlike me.”

The post, shared to the platform under u/myaltaccc, detailed a relationship complicated by lingering feelings for an ex, past infidelity and mounting personal pressures. The husband turned to viewers on the internet for advice, asking whether his marriage could be saved or whether his instincts were already telling him the relationship was over.

According to his post, his wife ended a four-year relationship in February 2024. The pair met two months later and initially developed a friendship before beginning a romantic relationship in July 2024. The husband said the transition from her previous relationship was “very messy,” and that between late November and December 2024, she cheated on him with her former partner.

Although she continued to struggle emotionally in the months that followed, he said he forgave her, believing the difficulties stemmed in part from how recently her previous relationship had ended.

The couple later married in April 2026.The latest crisis began two weeks before the Reddit post, when his wife attended a therapy appointment in the same neighborhood where her ex-boyfriend lives. With time left on her parking meter, she decided to visit him, rang his doorbell and eventually went for coffee with him.

The husband said she initially lied about who she had been with but admitted the truth the following day. During a conversation over lunch, she told him she still loved her ex.

She described her marriage as a “calm and ever-existing love” while characterizing her former relationship as more intense and exciting despite frequent conflict. She also admitted that she still thought about “what if” and expressed disappointment that her ex was currently in a relationship.

The remarks left her husband particularly shaken. He said she never framed the encounter in terms of loyalty to her marriage, and that the only apparent barrier to rekindling the relationship was that her ex had a girlfriend.

The wife also asked her former partner for his phone number. He, according to the post, said he needed to check with his girlfriend before sharing it and never contacted her afterward.

A week later, the husband said his wife admitted that therapy sessions remained emotionally triggering and that she felt compelled to return to her ex’s house to ask why he had not texted her.

“I’ve explained to her that wondering ‘what if’ is normal, but *acting* on those thoughts is crossing the line,” the man said.

Viewers online were quick to slam his handling of the matter.
