Witney Carson resigns as DWTS partner Robert Irwin’s wingwoman after overwhelming matchmaking mission
Witney Carson stepped away from her role as Robert Irwin’s Dancing with the Stars wingwoman after taking on the unexpected matchmaking task.

“I have completely dropped that because it was so overwhelming for me,” the 32-year-old told Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea.”
Carson explained that she briefly embraced the role before deciding it was no longer for her.
“I did that for a minute,” she said before adding that she had “resigned from that job.”
The professional dancer also recalled why the responsibility became too much to handle.
“I was like, ‘I’m not a matchmaker. This is not for me.’ It was too stressful,” she said.
The situation began after Robert, 22, revealed his single status during the Season 34 competition, drawing attention from women interested in dating him.
“First of all, it just means so, so much,” he told Page Six at the time.
He continued, “But, yeah, I’m on the lookout and it’ll happen when it happens … keep it coming!”
Robert’s sister, Bindi Irwin, and Witney eventually joined in on the matchmaking effort.
Witney said, “Bindi is taking a backseat. She’s like, ‘I can’t deal with it anymore. It’s up to you now.'”
The dancing partners later poked fun at the situation on social media.
Their Instagram video featured the caption, “Witney taking the wingman job very seriously,” alongside the words, “Coming in hot to check Robert’s DMs.”
Witney reflected on the matchmaking role before turning her attention back to the competition.
“I was like, ‘We’re trying to win here. We’re not trying to date,'” she joked.
The strategy ultimately paid off, as Witney and Robert won the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy during Season 34.
The victory marked Witney’s second Dancing with the Stars championship and another Mirrorball win for the Irwin family, following Bindi’s Season 21 victory with Derek Hough in 2015.
Although their ballroom partnership ended in November 2025, Witney and Robert reunited for Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro, where they danced together and co-hosted the finale.
Witney looked back on their time together during the spinoff.
“It was a really, really fun week for us because we got to kind of just let loose and do what we do best, which is dance together,” she said.
She continued, “It felt like an extension of Dancing with the Stars. We kind of got a little extra than our time on the show, which was fun.”
Robert took on hosting duties for the spinoff, which featured Mark Ballas and Shirley Ballas as judges. Witney, who appeared as one of the guest judges, reflected on working with him again.
“He was honestly just a beautiful person to work with,” she said.
She added, “He’s in my life forever now. My boys are obsessed with him, too. He is their hero, for sure.”
Witney is now preparing for another season, this time alongside Jimmy Kimmel Live! star Guillermo Rodriguez.
“It wasn’t on my Bingo card to be competing on Dancing with the Stars and be four months pregnant, but I think it’s a beautiful thing,” Witney said on Good Morning America.
She continued, “Hopefully, Guillermo will be right there beside me and we can work as a team.”
