For nearly three decades, Selena Quintanilla’s legacy has remained woven into the fabric of South Texas through her music, her family’s businesses and the generations of fans who still know every word to “Como la Flor.”

Now, a dispute involving two people closely connected to the Tejano icon has brought the Quintanilla family back into the spotlight. A.B. Quintanilla claimed that he is involved in a legal dispute connected to his sister, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, and their late father, Abraham Quintanilla.

However, Marcella Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla have pushed back against A.B. Quintanilla’s recent claims, calling his statements about Suzette, their late father and the family false. Here’s what to know about the ongoing conflict so far.In a report, investigative journalist Javier Ceriani alleged that Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga is seeking to sell a 50% stake in a business tied to her late sister’s legacy for about $30 million. Ceriani also alleged that A.B. Quintanilla is seeking about $48 million from his sister in connection with his decades of work as Selena’s songwriter and producer.

Those allegations have not been confirmed by A.B. or independently established by claims that he’s made public. In a Tuesday statement released amid mounting media inquiries, A.B. said he would not publicly detail the allegations against his sister “out of respect for the legal process.” In his statement, the longtime songwriter and producer claimed that Ceriani’s report was at least partially true: “Yes, there is a lawsuit related to Suzette Arriaga, as well as to facts and circumstances related to my father, Abraham Quintanilla,” he wrote.

Abraham Quintanilla Jr., who served as the leader and manager of Selena y Los Dinos, died in December 2025 at age 86.

“The lawsuit is part of a process that began a few months ago, but what led me to this point did not start a few months ago,” A.B. added. “It comes from years. Years of accumulated situations, decisions and circumstances that for a long time I chose to keep silent out of respect, out of loyalty, and above all, because it involved my own family…There are years of history. There are facts. There is evidence. There are circumstances. And there is much that is still unknown…”Marcella and Suzette issued their own statement in a Wednesday post to Selena’s official Instagram account, in which they dispute A.B.’s allegations altogether. In the statement, they directly challenged A.B.’s claims that Suzette is involved in a lawsuit, saying they could find no evidence of such a case in public records.

“A.B. states that there is a lawsuit involving Suzette and that a legal process began several months ago. Suzette has never been served with any lawsuit. She has received no court-filed complaint, summons, petition, or other legal pleading concerning the allegations A.B. is describing. We have also searched available public records for the lawsuit he says exists and, to date, have been unable to locate a publicly filed case matching his description. So, we ask a simple question: What lawsuit? Where was it filed? What is the case number?”

They also denied any theft or misappropriation by Suzette, saying she has not taken money or property belonging to A.B., Abraham, Marcella, Selena’s estate or any family-owned business. Additionally, they stated that they are “unaware of any wrongdoing by Abraham that supports what A.B. now appears to be suggesting about his father.”

The pair then called on A.B. to provide evidence for his claims: “Words such as ‘facts’ and ‘evidence’ have meaning. If A.B. has evidence that Suzette stole or misappropriated anything, he should present it. If he is alleging wrongdoing by Abraham, he should clearly state what he is alleging rather than leaving the public to speculate about a man who is no longer here to respond for himself,” they wrote. “And if these claims cannot be identified or supported, insinuations of financial or other misconduct should not be presented to the public as though they are established facts.”

Despite the conflict, Marcella and Suzette emphasized that their criticism of A.B. does not diminish their love for him: “We love A.B. He is our son and brother,” they wrote. “But loving someone does not require us to accept false accusations or remain silent while the reputations of Suzette, Abraham, and our family are called into question.”

They concluded by saying they will continue to protect their “family, Abraham’s memory, Selena’s legacy, and the truth.”

For fans who have followed the Quintanilla family since Selena’s rise to fame, the dispute is particularly striking. A.B. and Suzette weren’t simply siblings behind the scenes – they were members of Selena y Los Dinos, the family band that helped propel Selena to stardom in Tejano music.

A.B. played bass and became one of the group’s primary creative forces, writing and producing many of Selena’s biggest songs. Suzette was the band’s drummer before eventually moving into the business side of Selena’s legacy after her sister’s death in 1995.

In the years since Selena was killed at age 23, her legacy has grown far beyond her music. Her name and image have become part of a wide-ranging cultural and commercial enterprise encompassing recordings, merchandise, licensing, entertainment projects and other ventures.
