Woman goes on date with man. Then she finds out he has a baby due—in 2 weeks: ‘First red flag, he picked me up in a Tesla’

A woman went on a first date with a man after a period away from romance. Then he revealed that he was expecting a child in the middle of lunch.

Brittany Bowen (@brittanyybowen) posted a video that received more than 989,000 views. In it, she lamented the current dating market—and one date in particular that gave her a distinctly negative impression of it. That’s because her date forgot to tell her about a change in his life that could change hers.

What Happened On This Date?

Bowen told her audience that she hadn’t gone on a date since February 2026. But she took a chance and went out with a man who sent her an Instagram direct message. The encounter wasn’t random.

“ We have mutual friends, so he’s not, like, a complete stranger. I knew he wasn’t gonna kill me,” she said.

They initially went out on a date and didn’t match. She said she ghosted him for a while and didn’t respond for a couple of months.

Then he randomly asked her out again.

“ So I was like, ‘OK, fine. You know what? You win. Let’s… We can go on a date,’” she said.

A small hiccup

Bowen said that they went out on a Tuesday at around 1 p.m. She noticed a red flag as soon as he dropped by her home to pick her up.

“ First red flag, he picked me up in a Tesla,” she said. “Y’all know how I feel about a Tesla, OK?”

Many people, regardless of gender, say owning a Tesla is a red flag: Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, has a notorious reputation that marrs ownership of the vehicle. To some, owning a Tesla is seen as an endorsement of Musk’s values, as Musk often intertwines the company with his own principles.

A beige flag

Regardless, Bowen found herself in the vehicle heading to a restaurant. She and her date arrived and sat down. Bowen was surprised as they began to have a great conversation. She noticed that the man was cute, and the date seemed to be going well.

The next flag, whether it be beige or red, came. Her date ordered a beer, despite it being relatively early in the day. Then he started to drink his beer with a straw. She even took a video as proof of the strange quirk.

Bowen described herself as a forward person. For that reason, she asked why he was drinking a beer with a straw. Her date told her it was unsanitary to drink straight from the pint glass.

Bowen didn’t necessarily see this as an issue, per se. But she said it was an unusual part of their date.

A turn toward deeper conversation—and a surprise

Bowen and her date continued to talk, and as they did, they started having deeper conversations. Their food came out, and eventually, the topic of children came up.

Bowen expressed a firm desire not to date a person who has kids or “baby mamas.”

“I don’t even know how we got on the conversation of, like, baby mamas and kids and all that sort of thing [came up] … I … just don’t wanna be with anyone that has kids or baby mamas,” she said. “It’s honestly just too much for me to handle … I just want a peaceful, calm life, and I don’t think any man with a baby mama has a peaceful life.”

Bowen said that she and her date had mutual friends, so she knew that months prior, he didn’t have any kids. At least, he didn’t have any children she was aware of through their mutual connection.

That’s when her date told her he had a son. Curious, Bowen inquired as to when the baby was born.

“I was like, ‘Oh,’ like, ‘is this new? Because I don’t think the last time I saw you, you had a kid, or at least if you did, you didn’t tell anybody,” she said.

Then she got hit with a gut punch. ”He proceeds to tell me while I’m eating, he’s like, ‘Well, she’s due in two weeks,’” Bowen recalled.

Confused and bewildered, Bowen quickly realized she wanted no part in her date’s future. His expecting a child in the near future made that decision feel concrete.

Her date, however, tried to explain the situation.

“He’s like, … ‘It was a one-time thing. We don’t really know each other that well. She is … having a baby, but we are not together.”

Bowen didn’t want to continue to entertain the situation. “I’ve heard every single story that a baby daddy could quite literally make up when it comes to their baby mama,” she said. “I didn’t ask. That has nothing to do with me.”

She added that she didn’t think the man should have even been dating when his one-night stand was expecting a child. She told her audience that she thought his priorities should be focused on his child—not on a future partner.

Then Bowen said the icing on the cake came. When a server came over and asked how they’d pay, her date explained that he didn’t have his wallet. He thought he could use Apple Pay, which the restaurant did not have. After an awkward beat, the server offered to take his credit card information down manually. The man complied.

A Tesla charging issue

After that point, Bowen knew that they weren’t a good fit. But her date asked if she wanted to do anything else. Considering she was already out, she agreed to go with him somewhere else.

Then Chekov’s gun fired, and a previous red flag came back to bite Bowen. Her date let her know that he didn’t charge his Tesla in advance, so he asked if she’d come with him to the Tesla charging station with him.

“ He’s like, ‘Let’s go and charge the Tesla and just Netflix and chill in the car.’” Bowen said she does not “Netflix and chill,” as she does not like TV or movies. It made her want to leave as soon as possible.

“ I’m ready to go home. Take me home,” she said. “You know, just another day in the life of [expletive] dates.”

Commenters shame the man

In the comments section, viewers had an ample amount of criticism for Bowen’s date.

“Two weeks from having a baby ? .. oh no he dont need to date anyone,” one viewer said.

Generally, dating blogs and publications do not outright scorn individuals who date while expecting a child. But some dating forums say that potential partners who are expecting a child should be forthright with that information. Bowen’s date could have told her the news prior to the date.

For that reason, it’s somewhat of a social faux pas: Romance seekers cite the unfair expectation it places on the non-parent to take on a pseudo-parenting role. And while some people are OK with a future partner having a baby, others aren’t.

Some viewers doubted that Bowen’s date—who left the house without his wallet and without charging his car—could reasonably take care of another human being.

“That adult, who didn’t bring his wallet OR charge his transportation, is about to be responsible for a tiny HUMAN,” one viewer questioned.

Another commenter said, “He’s on the hunt for a babysitter.”
