Man killed romantic rival an hour after victim’s wife ended affair with him. Now he’s going to prison
A Bronx man fatally shot the victim about an hour after the victim’s wife ended her affair with him.

A Bronx man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing his romantic rival shortly after the victim’s wife ended her affair with him.
According to court documents, on Sept. 4, 2023, Pedro Mercado, 54, beat, pistol-whipped and shot Joshua Antonetti in the head in an apartment building parking lot. Antonetti was then rushed to the hospital, where he died the next day.
Mercado had been having an affair with the victim’s wife, but an hour before the shooting, she ended their relationship.

“This defendant was unable to accept the fact that the victim’s wife had decided to end her affair with the defendant. In a fit of uncontrolled rage, he took the life of a man who was loved by his family,” said District Attorney Clark in a press release.
Mercado will also serve five years of post-release supervision after his 20-year sentence is finished.
