Father suspected of killing his 2 kids, then himself, in Northern California

Mendocino County authorities are investigating the deaths of a father and his two children at a home near Ukiah as a double murder-suicide.

The 44-year-old man is believed to have killed his 14-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son before taking his own life Friday morning at the residence on the 6800 block of Old River Road, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff declined to release the names of the father and his children Saturday or to disclose a possible motive for the killings.

A 911 caller reported finding the children in need of emergency medical assistance shortly after 10 a.m. Friday, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Capt. Quincy Cromer said in a statement.

As first responders rushed to the residence, people at the home drove the children north on Old River Road until they encountered medical personnel, Cromer said. The children were unresponsive and did not have a pulse. Efforts to save their lives were not successful.

Meanwhile, authorities found the father dead at the residence.

The sheriff’s office has not described how the deaths occurred.

Cromer said his office will release additional details once autopsies and further investigation are completed and next of kin is notified.
