Fiat’s New Concept Brings Back The Spirit Of The Multipla

It’s called the Fiat Multiplay, and it blends MPV practicality with SUV flexibility and pickup-inspired versatility.

There’s been talk for years about bringing back the Fiat Multipla, but until now, nothing was official. That appears to have changed.

Fiat has released the first photo of one of the new models it will bring to the 2026 Paris Motor Show, and its shape suggests a small MPV. It’s called the Fiat Multiplay, and Fiat isn’t describing it as just another concept. Instead, the company calls it a “new mobility concept.”

That wording suggests the Fiat Multiplay won’t be another conventional SUV. As the teaser image shows, it appears to revive the philosophy of the original Fiat 600 Multipla: a small, practical MPV designed for the E-Car segment. Here’s what we know so far.

Channeling The Multipla

This is more than just a passing nod to the past. The Multiplay appears to draw inspiration from both the original 1950s and 1960s model and the late-1990s Fiat Multipla. The latter may not have won over many buyers with its unusual styling, but it made up for that with an incredibly spacious and practical interior.

The new Multiplay is all about maximizing space, and its name hints at a broader mission. Fiat’s brief press release mentions the “comfort and flexibility of an SUV” combined with the “cargo area and outdoor versatility of a pickup.” In other words, it’s aiming to be two vehicles in one.

Details are still scarce, but Fiat’s new small model will reportedly be able to change its shape using a special mechanism, allowing it to switch between different configurations depending on the situation. It’s somewhat similar in spirit to the “Lumo su Misura,” a concept created by IED Turin students Elettra Cappugi and Daniel Saviuc and presented during Milan Design Week 2026.

From what we can see, the teaser also appears to closely resemble the Fiat Quattrolino, which was shown alongside several other concepts during Stellantis’ Investor Day last May. That vehicle was a microcar classified under Europe’s L7e category, which covers heavy electric quadricycles. The Fiat Multiplay, however, will be a full-fledged car without the same road-use restrictions that apply to quadricycles.

A New Kind Of E-Car

As noted, the Fiat Multiplay effectively previews what will become Fiat’s E-Car, the brand’s small electric vehicle expected to cost around €15,000. Or, more accurately, it could be one of Fiat’s E-Cars.

During Investor Day, Fiat also showed an image of another concept described as the successor to the Pandina. The brand is clearly focusing on the small-car segment, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see two affordable electric models join the lineup.

Both are expected to arrive around 2028, alongside their “cousins,” the Citroën 2CV and an Opel model. The cars are expected to share a platform and production site in Pomigliano d’Arco, Italy.
