Buying a car sight unseen can carry huge risks, as this man from Oklahoma knew when he decided to buy a 2016 Tesla Model X 90D EV for $9,500.

Sight unseen means you have virtually no idea what condition the car is in, or if there is anything major wrong with it.

You are basically going in blind, and it’s fair to say that the YouTuber from The Car Addict was expecting the worst.

However, it was only on the drive home with the Tesla that he had the answers to the doubts that he’d had.

Why the Tesla Model X 90D was so cheap

The YouTuber was inspired by another content creator who had paid $17,000 for a Model X.

Randy, who runs the channel, wanted to see what the cheapest Model X available could offer him.

The car was bought from ACV Auctions and sold with no arbitration, so it was a car he couldn’t return.

These cars were incredibly expensive when they were new, costing six figures with features like the Falcon-wing doors, automatic front doors, the air suspension, and panoramic windshield.

It has a top speed of 155mph, and it has 417hp and 485lb-ft of torque.

However, the EV does weigh 5,270 lbs, so it is a heavy lump.

But outwardly, after initial inspection, the Model X looked to be in very good condition.

The interior showed some wear, but it was still clean and tidy.

Had the Tesla suffered over the years?

In short, the EV didn’t seem to have suffered. This was despite the fact it had 144,757 miles on the odometer.

All the main features, like the automatic doors, worked, and it even had an available software update despite being 10 years old.

The one downside was that the free lifetime Supercharging did not transfer onto the car.

Apart from that, the only other issues were the screen delamination, a common issue, and the odd cosmetic problem.

“As you can see, no hands,” said the YouTuber as he tried out the adaptive cruising.

There were issues with this however.

“I’ve just had to force it back,” he said, as it was riding the yellow center line too much.

Acceleration and deceleration however was great.

“Driveability? So far, runs out, drives out, absolutley perfect,” said Randy, and it was quickly winning him over.

After a 23-mile test drive, the Tesla Model X averaged around 384 Wh/mile.

That is very impressive for an electric car that had done nearly 150,000 miles over a 10 year period.

One thing that the YouTuber will do is replace the 12V battery. He also wanted to see if the car has had a new high-voltage battery at some point.

Back home, the EV charged, and it looked like the gamble of buying the cheap Tesla Model X had paid off.

“This has been one hell of a day,” the YouTuber concluded.
