Following a locker room altercation that saw former TCU safety Jacob Fields charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, the extent of the injuries has been made clear. The victim, wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma, was hospitalized for three days, according to a report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

An arrest warrant affidavit listed the injuries to Ezukanma. They included a brain bleed, a concussion and a strained AC joint in the shoulder after he was punched and kicked in the head, per the document.

After a team trainer was summoned to the locker room following Fields’ alleged assault, Ezukanma was sent to the hospital, where he received a CT scan. The scan showed a brain bleed, and Ezukanma was transferred to the ICU, where he underwent a second CT scan.

According to the Star-Telegram, “the results indicated the hematoma had grown, so he was given blood pressure and pain control medications.” Ezukanma was noted to be stable following a third CT scan.

Following the incident, TCU dismissed Fields from the team. He was a transfer from Louisiana Tech, and the program kicked him off the team over violations of team rules.

According to an incident report obtained by The Athletic, TCU’s general manager told an officer that an assault took place in the locker room. The report said the offense was an alleged aggravated assault with hands, feet or fists, and while the victim’s name was redacted, multiple reports said Fields struck Ezukanma.

TCU later canceled a media availability in light of the situation and Fields’ agent Philip Miller of PM3 Sports released a statement addressing it. He said a “significant portion” of the chatter on social media was “false or purely speculative.”

“Jacob misses TCU, his teammates, coaches, and the relationship he built there,” Miller’s statement read. “He was a good student, a hard worker, and competitor who built many meaningful friendships during his time at TCU. He is grateful for the opportunity the university gave him.

“While disappointed, Jacob understands that given the circumstances, it was in the best interest of all parties to move forward. He respects that decision and wishes his teammates and the TCU program nothing but success.”

Fields spent three seasons at Louisiana Tech before committing to TCU, where he was the projected starter at safety. He had a huge 2025 season with 92 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, along with three interceptions – two of which he returned for touchdowns.

After entering the transfer portal, Fields became the No. 1,160 overall player and No. 143-ranked safety in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. The expectation was he would play a significant role on a TCU defense that lost Bud Clark to the NFL Draft this year.
