Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has been outspoken about her standards for love and relationships. As her profile has grown as a WNBA star, it has been one of the many topics she has been asked about — and she has never minced her words.

For instance, Cunningham does not want a shorter guy to date her, saying it would just make her feel like she is the “man” in the relationship. She also said that she wants her future partner to lead the household.

Like on the basketball court, Cunningham’s dating life can be just as competitive. But her preferences do not end there.

In an episode of “Like a Farmer Podcast,” Cunningham revealed her love for country music and the artists who make the genre distinctive and iconic. While she has named several of her favorites, one country star has stood out and makes her heart flutter.

Cunningham’s love for country and Alan Jackson

Cunningham has always been proud of her Missouri roots. Growing up in Columbia, she developed a deep love for basketball, attending Rockbridge High School before committing to the University of Missouri. Beyond the court, her time in Missouri also helped foster her connection to country music.

That connection has remained with her as she has made a name for herself in the WNBA. She reportedly only listens to country music before games.

“There’s some good artists out there,” she said. “It’s in my blood. I was born with it.”

In the episode, Cunningham shared quite an extensive list of current country artists she admires, including Cody Johnson, Morgan Wallen, Ella Langley, Kenny Chesney, Chris Stapleton, George Strait, Riley Green, Megan Moroney, Brooks & Dunn and the late Dolly Parton, who was still alive during her interview.

She said it is tough to list all of the good country singers today before naming one final artist, Jackson. The two-time Grammy award winner, who specializes in neotraditional country music, had a nearly 40-year music career that ended in June with his final concert in Nashville. And for Cunningham, the country legend is the ideal man – under certain conditions.

“I know I’m just missing so much…Alan Jackson,” she said. “Oh god, Alan Jackson. If he was younger and not married and have kids…he’s everyone’s dream guy.”

Cunningham’s search for love continues

Tough luck for the 30-year-old Cunningham, as Jackson is 67, has been married to Denise Jackson for 46 years and has three daughters.

The search for the right romantic partner continues for Cunningham, though she reportedly is still single and has remained private about her dating life. However, she has been honest about what she believes makes this area of her life difficult.

“People don’t come up to me…I don’t really go on dates,” she said. “My life is a mystery to a lot of people, and that’s how I want it to be…“I think I just maybe give off, like, an intimidating vibe.”​

However, she has not shied away from sharing what she looks for in a partner beyond looks, height and money. For the Missouri native, sharing her faith and helping her grow spiritually are among her top priorities in relationships.

“I want someone to push me towards Christ,” Cunningham said. “If you’re not about it, and you don’t talk about it, then don’t even talk to me. I have my blinders on. But my No. 1 thing is I want you to lead our house, lead me, lead our future kids to serve and love a good, good God.”

Whoever that partner will be remains to be seen. For now, she will stay focused on her career with the Fever. One thing is for certain, though: that man likely won’t be Jackson.
