Texas star Colin Simmons knows why they lost against Oklahoma

Texas suffered its first loss of the 2026 college football season on Saturday.

The Longhorns entered the Red River Rivalry game as the favorite but lost 27-24 on a game-winning field goal. Oklahoma Sooners kicker Tate Sandell drilled the kick as time expired, giving his team the upset win over the No. 1 team in the country.

Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning had a rough fourth quarter, throwing a pick-six and then another interception that led to the game-winning kick.

Longhorns star pass rusher Colin Simmons spoke about the loss after the game and said they beat themselves.

“We definitely beat ourselves. Only Texas can beat Texas,” Simmons said, via CJ Vogel of OnTexasFootball.

While the Longhorns did beat themselves, especially in the fourth quarter, the Sooners still deserve a ton of credit for winning the game. They made the plays they needed to make down the stretch to secure the win.

It’s the Sooners’ first win over the Longhorns since the 2023 season, when they won 34-30. It’s also the Sooners’ first win over the Longhorns when the latter is ranked No. 1 in the country.

The Sooners return to action next Saturday when they host the Kentucky Wildcats, who have started the year strong, while the Longhorns host the Florida Gators next Saturday.

Kickoff for the Sooners-Wildcats game will be at 7:30 p.m. ET, while the Longhorns-Gators game will start at noon ET.
