In a rare sighting amid his battle with dementia, Bruce Willis was spotted outside Forest Lawn in Glendale, waiting for his ride with two assistants after spending time inside a church on August 5. His wife, Emma Heming Willis, recently got candid about how she feels like she is “always carrying” guilt amid her husband’s dementia challenges, adding that she didn’t feel like celebrating her 50th birthday as a result.

Emma, 50, married Bruce, 71, in 2009. The couple now has two daughters, Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12. The model has dedicated her time to raising awareness about frontotemporal dementia after her husband’s diagnosis, which came in 2023.

In a recent interview, the mother of two said she was unsure whether to ring in her 50th birthday with a celebration in June, adding that she hasn’t been feeling very celebratory lately. Earlier this month, Last month, the actor was seen in a rare public outing in Los Angeles.

The 71-year-old Die Hard star was diagnosed with the degenerative condition in February 2023, which was confirmed by his wife Emma Heming Willis, who has taken on a caretaker role for her husband.

“I was unsure if I really wanted to do anything, but I had a friend of mine who kept sort of pushing me and saying, ‘You know what, you don’t want to miss out on your 50. You have to celebrate in some form or fashion.’ And I really sat with that, and I thought about it,” she said about her birthday celebrations to Hoda Kotb on her Making Space podcast.

She reiterated that she “always wrestles” with guilt, noting, “I think guilt is something that I am always carrying, but I’ve learned that it is really not helpful.”

“I always go back to: what would my husband want for me?” Emma said. “And he would want me to have a big, fun bash. He would want me to celebrate my life with my friends and family. And that is sort of what I always think about when guilt of any sort comes in front of me.”

Bruce appeared relaxed on August 5, supported by his two assistants, donning a blue cap and breezy white shirt.

Emma, on the other hand, ultimately decided to enjoy a little birthday bash with her mother and friends.

“They said, ‘What are a couple of things that you want?’ I said, ‘I want to eat tacos, and I want to have a margarita. And I wanna be with my friends,'” she shared.

“I’m really happy that I did. We brought together my friends, some family, and it was just a really lovely, intimate night.”

Despite living separately, Emma has insisted that she and their young daughters, 14-year-old Mabel and 11-year-old Evelyn, spend time at the home with their father while they navigate the devastating diagnosis.

The couple married in 2009, nine years after his divorce from actress Demi Moore, with whom Bruce shares three adult daughters.

Back in April, Bruce was seen smiling from ear to ear as he was driven around Los Angeles after celebrating his own 71st birthday in March.
