A Colorado couple identified as Steven Cole Simpson, 25, and Corryn Simpson, 26, have been charged in connection with the road rage fatal shooting of a 23-year-old.

According to a news release from the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Steve was charged with First-Degree Murder (After Deliberation), a Class 1 Felony, and Attempted First-Degree Murder (After Deliberation), a Class 2 Felony. Meanwhile, Corryn was charged with First-Degree Murder (Accessory), a Class 4 Felony.

The Fatal Shooting Stemmed From a Traffic Collision

According to the news release, the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Andrew Luke Bott stemmed from a traffic collision. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigators determined that on the evening of July 25, 2026, a white BMW X5 and a Ford F-150 were involved in a traffic collision on southbound Santa Fe Drive near Arapahoe Community College.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., Corryn, who was in the BMW X5, called 911 to report the incident and explained that the truck had fled, “while the BMW continued following the pickup truck.”

Although the dispatcher asked them not to follow the truck, the couple continued to do so, and Steven was also heard making a “threatening statement,” followed shortly afterward by the sound of two gunshots, which the dispatcher heard.

During the call with the 911 dispatcher, the couple followed the truck west on Bowles Avenue and into the Grant Ranch neighborhood, and Simpson even provided the dispatcher with the Ford F-150’s license plate number.

Subsequently, officials received a “911 hang-up call that was later determined to involve the shooting.” Upon calling the number back, the driver of the Ford F-150 told them that “another vehicle had been chasing them and that his passenger, Andrew Luke Bott, had been shot.”

After receiving the report, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of West Dorado Avenue and Grant Ranch Boulevard at 10:32 p.m. Bott was transported to Littleton Adventist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on July 26.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigators, working alongside the Littleton Police Department, “used witness statements, 911 recordings, Flock Safety license plate reader data, surveillance footage and evidence collected through search warrants,” and successfully identified the couple as occupants of the BMW. They also used Flock camera footage to determine that the vehicles entered and exited the Grant Ranch neighborhood within seconds of one another on the night of the shooting.

“Search warrants executed at the Simpsons’ residence and vehicle resulted in the seizure of three 9mm handguns, ammunition and other evidence. Investigators also recovered ammunition they say was consistent with shell casings recovered at the scene. Firearms, projectiles, gunshot residue samples and other evidence have been submitted for forensic testing,” the authorities added in the news release.

According to The Jeffco Transcript, court records showed that Steven was previously found guilty of speeding twice in 2017, and twice in 2022. In 2022, he was also found guilty of driving an unsafe or defective vehicle. Meanwhile, Corryn had no history of criminal charges.

According to Denver 7, the couple, who are residents of Highlands Ranch, were taken into custody on July 29, 2026, and are set to appear in Jefferson County Court for a preliminary hearing on September 2, 2026.
