Marcye Scott, the daughter of the late Rep. David Scott (D-Ga.), lost the special election runoff to fill the remainder of her father’s term in the House, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Everton Blair, the former chair of the Gwinnett County School Board, emerged as the victor in Tuesday’s runoff, after coming in behind Marcye Scott in the first round of an all-party special election in July.

David Scott, who served in Congress for more than two decades and made history as the first Black chair of the House Agriculture Committee, passed away in April, leaving a vacancy in the Peach State’s 13th Congressional District.

Marcye Scott said at the time that she was considering a political bid before her father’s passing, and she saw the special election as a way to carry on his legacy.

The district, a blue stronghold that David Scott had easily defended since he won it in 2022, covers portions of six counties in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Blair will now represent the seat through the end of 2026.

Blair was the only candidate in the special election who was also trying for a full term in the seat, which begins next year, but he came in third in the May primary. Democratic state Rep. Jasmine Clark won the party nod and is in position to claim the solidly Democratic seat in the general election.
