Donald Trump raises eyebrows with unhinged early hours rant on issue he thinks will ‘unite’ US
President Donald Trump went on a bizarre late-night rant on Truth Social about the one thing that would unite us as Americans, and it’s not what you would think.
Taking to his favorite social media platform around midnight, the president demanded that Senate Republicans “get moving” on a piece of legislation that he has dubbed the “No More Changing of Clocks Act.” Officially known as the Sunshine Protection Act, Trump, 80, claimed that the clock-changing process was “ridiculous” and cost the U.S. “a fortune.”

He added that the process is “bad for Crime, stress on people, Sports, and just about everything else you can imagine.” Trump added, “Even the highly respected PGA Commissioner, Brian Rolapp, needs it for the completion of Golf Tournaments in the Winter, when they just plain run out of sunlight.”
• Trump wildly claims making daylight saving time permanent will reduce ‘the murder rate’
• Daylight saving time could change soon as Trump-backed bill passes in Congress
The president further alleged that people “don’t want to go around changing their Clocks anymore and, besides, far and away, most people like having an hour of extra sunlight in the evening, rather than in the morning.” According to the president, the House passed the bill in July “with great bipartisan support.”
“Unfortunately, it’s being held up by Senator Tom Cotton, of Arkansas, for reasons unknown,” Trump said. “People are sick and tired of having to change their Clocks twice a year. Even most farmers would rather have additional time in the evening to harvest their crops.”
Trump said the practice was “foolish, inconvenient, and, in some cases, very costly.” It was claimed by the president, citing some medical study, that turning clocks back “is also bad for your health in the anxiety it creates.”
It was also claimed by the president that studies conducted by leading medical, crime, and economic officials claimed that having an extra hour of sunlight would “Decrease Robbery and Murder Rates, Reduce Car Accidents (especially those involving Pedestrians!), Lower Risk for Cardiac Issues, Stroke, and Seasonal Depression.”
The post also claimed that having an extra hour of daylight would “Make It Safer for Children to Walk Home from School, Increase Time with your Family, Strongly Support Extracurricular Activities, Boost the Sports, Fitness, Tourism, Retail, and Restaurant Industries (and more!), and Save Money on Energy Bills, because everyone will be enjoying an EXTRA HOUR OF DAYLIGHT.”
It’s important to know that Trump did not provide any legitimate sources for these studies. “In other words, leave it as it is now, and never change it again,” Trump implored.
“But importantly, with a 100% approval rating, is that NOBODY wants to change their Clocks twice a year,” Trump said, once again not providing any proof. “This is an issue that Republicans, Democrats, and Independents can unite behind! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Battle to eliminate Daylight Saving Time
The bill was introduced by Florida Congressman Vern Buchanan, who said that Floridians and Americans were “tired” of the biannual time change, and “the evidence is clear that permanent daylight saving time can improve public health, reduce traffic accidents, lower crime, and encourage more outdoor activity.” Cotton, a senator from Arkansas, opposed the bill, saying that permanent sunlight would be harmful for Americans.
In a speech in October 2025, Cotton said, “The darkness of permanent Daylight Savings Time would be especially harmful for schoolchildren and working Americans.” He added, “As we saw in 1974, kids would either walk to school in the pitch black or schools would have to push back start times. The choice would be between danger on the one hand, and disruption on the other.”
“Meanwhile, construction workers, farmers, and others who rise before the sun or need the sun to work would be penalized,” he added. “These workers might go three, four, even five hours in the morning without seeing the sun, which would hurt their quality of life and potentially their safety in the workplace.”
Currently, neither Arizona nor Hawaii observes daylight saving time, and U.S. territories Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands also stay on standard time year-round. Trump ran for president in 2024 on the promise to make daylight saving time permanent.
