A man who police allege was terrorizing people in Philadelphia was arrested in Las Vegas on Tuesday after a days-long manhunt.

Zymire Hughes, 22, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service and is being held in the Clark County Detention Center as he waits for extradition back to Pennsylvania, the federal law enforcement agency said in a social media post.

Hughes is accused of terrorizing at least a dozen people on the streets of Center City during a more than 30-minute period on the morning of Aug. 12, while wearing a mask resembling the fictional serial killer doll Chucky.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark told reporters that Philadelphia residents no longer have to be afraid.

“Tonight, the fear that one man brought to the Philadelphia community comes to an end,” Clark said.

Clark said that Hughes fled from Philadelphia on Aug 19 and flew from the Trenton-Mercer Airport in Ewing, New Jersey, to Orlando, then to Las Vegas.

Authorities were able to pinpoint his location to an apartment complex in southeast Las Vegas. Clark said Hughes has been a Las Vegas resident since February but has family in Philadelphia.

Center City made headlines last week when reports first emerged of a masked man acting “erratically” toward people in the early morning hours.

The suspect entered a Dunkin’ Donuts wearing a face mask just after 5:20 a.m., but was refused service because he was behaving “erratically,” Jason Smith, the Philadelphia police captain, told reporters at a press conference on Monday, Aug 17.

He then allegedly ran up to random targets nearby while filming the interactions.

In another case, he allegedly harassed a female jogger, who went to the police over the interaction.

Smith said that the suspect held up a cell phone in front of her, then asked her, “Are you ready to die”

“[She] appears startled, at which time the male asks her again, ‘Are you ready to die?’ Clearly, she’s not ready to die, so she takes off,” Smith added, revealing that she hurt her leg trying to flee and was “screaming for help.”
