Ex-wife of ICE agent who fatally shot Colombian national makes shocking claims: ‘In his head, it’s justified’

An immigration enforcement operation on July 13 garnered worldwide attention after an ICE officer, David Brouillette, fatally shot 26-year-old Colombian national Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine. While the alarming incident has already been dominating headlines, his ex-wife, Ashley Brouillette, has come forward to share disturbing details about him.

While speaking with the Portland Press Herald during a telephonic conversation, AshleyBrouillette said that her ex-husband confessed to the shooting over a call and defended his actions. The publication also reviewed the screenshot of Brouillette’s incoming calls to his ex-wife on Wednesday that were made from his current wife’s Facebook account.

She said, “He was asking me to lie for him and to cover for his character,” further claiming, “I told him that I was not going to lie for him. And then he tried to say that it was a justified shooting because the guy tried to hit him with his car.”

Ashley recalled confronting him, stressing that she had seen videos of Brouillette at the shooting scene and remembered telling him, “Nowhere in there does it show that this man charged at you with a car.” She said, “In his head, it’s justified. He’s unusually calm about it.”

The report also states that Ashley told one of the reporters that she publicly wanted to speak about her ex-husband. She explained that she had previously informed the ICE agent’s seniors in the military about his mental health issues. She went on to talk about her ex-husband’s abusive behavior during and after their marriage. Ashley alleged that though she doesn’t live in Maine anymore, David continues to reach out to her. She also shared a voicemail from a man with slurred speech, which she claimed the ICE agent had left in the fall of 2025.

The report also claims that he continues to discourage his ex-wife and stresses being in a better financial position than her. The man in the voicemail allegedly said, “You should have your (expletive) throats cut, yup, you should.”

“Am I threatening that I’m going to do that? Nope. But do I think you should have your (expletive) throat cut or should have them cut? Yep,” the man further added.

Another report by the Associated Press also quoted an immediate relative of David, revealing that he was diagnosed with severe bipolar disorder and attention deficit disorder as a child. The relative reportedly described him as “extremely mentally ill” while claiming that he had attempted suicide twice at the age of 12 and was hospitalized multiple times.
