Florida woman takes Uber to confront boyfriend, shoots female passenger to make a point, deputies say

A 24-year-old Florida woman faces an attempted murder charge after deputies say she tracked her boyfriend to a residential street and shot a woman seated inside his vehicle early Saturday morning.

Katherine Dale Kelly was arrested following the shooting, which occurred near Bamboo Avenue, according to an arrest affidavit from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Kelly is charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and use of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Sheriff’s officials reported that Kelly’s boyfriend, Elijah Baker, picked up Angel Adenau around 1:20 a.m. while driving Kelly’s Volkswagen. The pair later parked near a residence on Bamboo Avenue.

According to investigators, Kelly suspected Baker was being unfaithful, tracked his location, and ordered an Uber to travel to the scene. Carrying a pink-and-black Glock handgun, Kelly approached the passenger side of the car and fired a single round through the window, striking Adenau in the left shoulder.

Baker drove Adenau away from the scene to her home, where emergency crews were called. Adenau was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Deputies said they recovered a 9mm shell casing and a pink-and-black Glock handgun during the investigation. Text messages found on Baker’s phone detailed accusations of infidelity, along with an alleged prior threat from Kelly stating she would shoot someone.During an interview with detectives, Kelly initially claimed she acted in self-defense, the affidavit stated. Investigators reported she later said she wanted to “make a point” because she believed Baker was cheating on her again.
