Fox News abruptly announced the departure of Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo on Thursday.

“Effective today, Maria Bartiromo is no longer with FOX News Media,” Fox said in a statement. “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 and a half years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”

Vanity Fair Washington correspondent Aidan McLaughlin reported that Bartiromo did not leave for a job in the Trump administration after speculation she would take over as White House press secretary. Bartiromo joined Fox News in 2013 after hosting “Closing Bell” and “On the Money with Maria Bartiromo” on CNBC.

Bartiromo first hosted “Opening Bell with Maria Bartiromo” on Fox Business, but expanded into news topics outside of the stock market with “Mornings with Maria,” which covered economic news, as well as public policy.

Fox will retitle “Mornings with Maria” to “Mornings with Fox Business,” and use a rotation of anchors. Her Sunday show, “Sunday Morning Futures,” will be hosted Sunday by Jason Chaffetz, with a new host to be announced on a later date.

It remains unclear why Fox and Bartiromo parted ways as of Thursday. She had been off air since early August.

There was speculation Bartiromo left because she was taking over for Karoline Leavitt as White House press secretary. Thursday marks the first White House press briefing without Leavitt, and Vice President J.D. Vance is set to make an appearance, leading some to believe he is announcing something related to the job.

Deadline also reported that Bartiromo is not departing Fox for another news network or a job within the Trump administration.

Bartiromo was close with President Donald Trump, who was a frequent guest on her program.
