ICE just made NY safer — despite Hochul and Mamdani’s best efforts to stop it
Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani are bent on protecting criminals from ICE, yet federal agents nonetheless collared a stunning 2,200 of them in July alone, and with more of that to come.
Hooray for them — and New York.
The arrested include full-on murderers, rapists, drug traffickers, gang members, child predators and other monsters nabbed as part of ICE’s “Operation Rotten Apple.” Again: 2,200 in all.
Villains, per the feds, like:

- Bogdan Detrovich Gren, a Ukrainian national here illegally who was convicted of murder, kidnapping, abduction resulting in death and criminal possession of a weapon.
- Andreas Bernal Chiquito, of Colombia, nabbed for sexual conduct against a child and injuring a child under 17.
- Palvinder Singh, from India, convicted of rape in Germany.
- Carlos Mendez-Acosta, from Venezuela, also convicted of rape.
Can anyone really argue New York isn’t safer without these thugs?
Yet Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin says ICE got absolutely “no help” from either Hochul or Mamdani in rounding them up.
“Operation Rotten Apple did what sanctuary politicians in New York City and the state of New York refuse to do: made the Empire State safer,” he added.
Indeed, Hochul has been boasting that a law she backed bans local cops from cooperating with federal agents as they pursue illegal-immigrant criminals.
It’s insane: She even tried to gaslight New Yorkers, claiming that by shielding criminals, her Local Cops, Local Crimes Act will somehow boost public safety.
Mamdani, too, has put up roadblocks to keep ICE from removing criminals.
Per Homeland Security, New York’s “radical sanctuary policies” account for the release of more than 13,000 criminals back onto the streets.
That’s supposed to make you feel safer?
The biggest irony: The gov and mayor’s suck-up to pro-criminal lefties produces the exact opposite of what they claim to want — i.e., keeping ICE agents out of New York.
“Because [Hochul and Mamdani] refused to work with us,” promised Mullin, “we will send as many people as we have possible to make sure we are restoring law and order.”
Remember, ICE’s broad, public raids are far more likely to spark clashes with lefty protesters, as they did in February in Lower Manhattan in November and in Brooklyn in May.
Make no mistake: Mamdani and Hochul’s sanctuary pandering not only undermines public safety, it risks more confrontations with ICE.
Kudos to Mullin and ICE and for doing the job New York pols won’t.
