Mom celebrating her 8-year-old son’s birthday is killed by her ex-husband, police say
A California mother, 29, was shot dead by her ex-husband while she was celebrating her son’s eighth birthday at a trampoline park last Saturday afternoon.
Samantha Lee Cromwell was outside of Urban Air Adventure Park in Sacramento, California when she and a friend were shot, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Emergency services rendered medical aid to Cromwell, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her friend was taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
Cromwell’s stepfather Cedric Ward identified the friend as Faith, according to CBS News.
Edward Lee Daniel Tucker Jr, 36, was identified as the suspect and taken into custody on homicide charges, police said.
He is ineligible for bail, according to Sacramento County jail records.
Tucker was charged with four felony counts: murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, KCRA reported.
The circumstances remain under investigation.
In 2024, Tucker was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and for shooting at an inhabited dwelling, according to Fresno District Attorney’s Office. His arrest was part of a larger takedown of a gang operation.
Tucker and Cromwell were married for several years and share an eight-year-old son named DJ, Ward told CBS.
The relationship was allegedly abusive and Cromwell was trying to leave him for some time before the divorce, CBS reported.
‘We’re supposed to go first before our children,’ Ward told Fox 40, ‘And that’s what makes me angry the most. You know, it’s a child involved. And Samantha loved her son. She loved her son more than anything.’
Cromwell’s son DJ was taken in by Ward after the incident.
The woman’s sister, Alyvia Cromwell, started a GoFundMe fundraiser to collect funds for funeral expenses and help support her late sister’s son DJ.
A rally will be held in Hagginwood Park on October 4 to honor Cromwell’s life.
