New CCTV released in Brooke George case shows her boyfriend was ‘agitated and angry’ at the bar before she stabbed him. The prosecution’s own evidence appears to support her story.

New surveillance footage has been released in the case of British TikTok influencer Brooke George, who is facing execution by firing squad in Dubai after stabbing her boyfriend William Treeby on the night of June 21.

George, 23, from Gravesend in Kent, does not deny killing Treeby, 26. She says she stabbed him once with a kitchen knife after he punched her in the face, threw her belongings around his apartment and continued to attack her. He died from the single wound.

What the new footage shows

CCTV footage obtained by The Sun shows George and Treeby arriving with a friend at McCafferty’s bar in Dubai’s Jumeirah Village Circle just after 3pm and leaving together at around 8pm.

The footage reportedly shows Treeby becoming “agitated” and “angry” at some point during the evening, requiring his friend to calm him down.

Eye-witness statements included in the prosecution’s own evidence state that Treeby punched George in the face on the way home from the bar. Photographs taken after her arrest show bruising around her left eye consistent with that account.

A toxicology report released alongside the CCTV confirms Treeby was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. It has also now emerged that he had pending drug charges in the UK, a detail that had not been widely reported until now.

The case for self-defense

Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, the advocacy group representing George, told The Sun that the prosecution’s own evidence effectively supports her client’s account.

“The prosecution’s own evidence confirms that Treeby was heavily intoxicated, had punched Brooke shortly beforehand, was angry and agitated, and had thrown her belongings throughout the villa,” Stirling said. “This is not a case where Brooke denies causing the fatal injury. The question is why it happened and whether she was defending herself.”

Under UAE law, self-defense is recognized, but the bar is high. The threat must be immediate, there must be no reasonable opportunity to call police, and the force used must be considered proportionate.

Whether a Dubai court rules that a single kitchen knife stab constitutes a proportionate response to a punch and aggressive behavior is the question the entire case turns on.

How George ended up in Dubai

George met Treeby on Facebook and traveled to Dubai to visit him after an online relationship developed. The first trip went well, but during the second one things took a turn for the worse.

Treeby became controlling, had booked her only a one-way ticket and withheld her passport.

Her mother Thereza said her daughter seemed unlike herself the day before the incident, acting quieter and not her usual happy self.

After the stabbing George was arrested at Dubai International Airport in the early hours of June 22 as she tried to board a flight home. She has been held at Bur Dubai jail since. The UK Foreign Office has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to her family.

George has not yet entered a plea. If convicted of premeditated murder she faces the death penalty.
