Newborn found dead on roadside, as police charge girl, 14, with murder and accuse father of incest

Authorities in California are looking for a man they accuse of incest while charging his 14-year-old daughter with murder in connection with a newborn’s death.
The infant, whom police are referring to as “Baby Angelita,” was found along Struve Road in north Monterey County on the morning of Aug. 1, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement this week.
Ofelia Garcia Ortega, 36, has since been arrested on child endangerment charges while police continue searching for 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez and his 14-year-old daughter, believed to be the infant’s mother, according to the statement.
Police believe Perez is “concealing” the teen and “preventing law enforcement from locating her.”
Around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, officers responding to a report of a baby alongside the roadway found Baby Angelita deceased with signs of traumatic injury, the sheriff’s office said, adding that subsequent investigation revealed the 14-year-old child had given birth on the side of the road before allegedly leaving the newborn on the ground.
Investigators used Flock cameras to locate the “vehicle of interest associated with the murder investigation,” the statement continued.

It wasn’t immediately clear how Ortega is connected to Perez or the teen and infant.
The 14-year-old is wanted on a murder charge.
Perez is wanted on charges of incest; lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14; lewd acts with a minor; unlawful sexual intercourse; child concealment; and child endangerment, according to the sheriff’s office.
