Robert F. Kennedy Jr tried to share a social media tribute to his wife to mark their 12th wedding anniversary, but he ended up being mocked for the post.

The health secretary, 72, has been married to Cheryl Hines since August 2, 2014. To celebrate their love, RFK Jr took to Instagram and X on Saturday, writing, “Twelve years of love, laughter, kindness and wisdom. You are everything to me.” He added three red heart emojis to the posts.

While the politician seemed focused on his relationship, fans were quick to question his odd choice of photo. Hines and RFK Jr are celebrating their anniversary just months after getting “back on track” following his sexting scandal.

In his anniversary post, 60-year-old Hines was seen laughing as she stood next to her husband during a romantic stroll on the beach. The couple wore matching black jackets, with RFK Jr placing his hand around his wife’s shoulder.

In the front of the snap, however, was something that’s got people talking. A beige unidentified object took up most of the picture, with some people joking it looked like a sea creature.

“My man, use a better photo!” one X user urged. Another commented, “What a weird photo,” while a third person echoed, “This is the weirdest.”

One of RFK Jr’s followers joked, “@RobertKennedyJr @CherylHines I hate when a sea serpent photo b*mbs the perfect shot. Happy Anniversary! You guys are awesome.”

Other people wished the couple a happy anniversary, with one person writing on Instagram, “Happy Anniversary! May you celebrate many more in love and great health!” Another fan commented, “Congratulations! So lucky to have each other.”

Hines’ and RFK Jr’s anniversary comes just weeks after a source claimed the couple had been working on their marriage to move past the health secretary’s sexting scandal. Earlier this month, the pair were seen getting close while touring Belgrade, Serbia.

A source told Page Six at the time, “They were super affectionate with each other. He had his arm around her and at one point kissed her. They acted like a teenage couple in love with all his sexting scandals clearly in the rearview mirror.”Their marriage had been surrounded by scandal following allegations involving RFK Jr and former New York Magazine journalist Olivia Nuzzi. In September 2024, the publication said Nuzzi “acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had engaged in a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while she was reporting on the campaign.”

The journalist was later fired from her job. At the time, a spokesperson for RFK Jr pushed back at the claims, saying, “Mr. Kennedy only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which yielded a hit piece.”

Hines also addressed the claims during an appearance on The Katie Miller Podcast in October 2025. She said, “I think you always have to consider the source, right?

“So that’s where I start. And then it ends with a conversation with Bobby. Getting to the truth of the matter, and then that’s where it ends.”
