A content creator had raised concerns about security measures at a popular food festival in Seattle, a day before a shooting there left three people dead and four others injured, including a toddler.

The gunfire erupted around 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Bite of Seattle, an annual festival that draws hundreds of food and retail vendors.

Police arrested one suspect and were looking for another, Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis told a news conference Sunday night. However, he said that there was no ongoing threat to the public. Investigators believe the two suspects were shooting at each other, Davis said, adding that two guns were recovered from the scene.

In a video posted on TikTok on Saturday, a content creator with the handle “leebotracks” appeared to be filming himself as he walked around the festival. In the clip, he claimed attendees were able to enter the festival with “no security, no pat down, no search to the bag.”

He urged the organizers to introduce security measures to keep people safe.

“Make it happen. Keep the people safe. You should not be able to just walk up into this festival with all these people, with all these vendors, with no security.”

The creator addressed the shooting in a video posted late on Sunday night.

“I tried to let everybody know how security was being handled,” he said. “Nobody can say I didn’t try to let people know. People really were bashing me in my comment sections on the previous videos.”

Newsweek has contacted the creator for further comment via social media.

It is unclear what security measures were in place at the festival. Last year, organizers said they had a “strong record of security” after a vendor complained about a break-in.

Ongoing Investigation

At Sunday night’s news conference, Davis told reporters that police did not have a description of the outstanding suspect.

“This is going to be an ongoing investigation,” he said. “We’re going to be out here for several hours.”

He said responding police officers had acted quickly to prevent more people from being injured.

“This is a tragedy. I’m really sorry that this happened. The Bite of Seattle is a very positive event. We haven’t had any issue in recent years,” Davis said. “Thankfully, we had officers on the scene that were brave, went to those shots and prevented more victims from being injured.”

He added that the officers “heard the shots and confronted the suspect that they saw actually shooting and stopped that shooting from continuing.” No officers fired their weapons, Davis said.

Two of the victims died at the scene and a third died at a hospital. The four injured, including a 2-year-old boy, were hospitalized and in stable condition, said Grace Nuñez, a spokesperson for the Seattle Fire Department. The rest of the injured were adults.

Davis couldn’t say if any of the victims were involved in the confrontation.
