The Vice President’s wife referenced one of Dolly’s many philanthropies, Imagination Library, a program that mails free books to children every month from birth until they turn five years old. It also happens to be a program that Republicans have cut funding from under Trump and Vance’s America, a point that social media users did not hesitate to point out.

On August 25th, Vance took to X to share a short tribute to Dolly, writing, “As four-time subscribers to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and lifelong fans of her music, our family knows that Dolly Parton loved a good story. I hope that you’ll pick up a book and celebrate the magic of storytelling in her honor today.”

Many online users found it ironic that Vance would post such a thing despite being married to one of the men who actively supported the defunding of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Dolly passed away on August 25th after a brief battle with cancer, her family announced.

Across social media platforms, users called out Vance for her tribute to Parton, and didn’t hold back in pointing out her husband stands firmly on the opposing side of Parton’s beliefs. “Taking items clearly intended to help low-income kids with illiteracy is shameful,” one person wrote. “Flouting this act while you defunded the very library you stole from is comically on point for your party. Hope you’re not too busy stealing from a food pantry or clothing drive to read this.”
