New details are emerging about the death of The Challenge champion Tyler Duckworth at home in North Dakota.

The Grand Forks Police Department has revealed new information about the circumstances surrounding the discovery of Duckworth’s body, according to a report People published on Friday, August 14. Police were called to his apartment around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, after neighbors downstairs reported water leaking through their ceiling. Once inside, officers traced the leak to Duckworth’s bathtub, where they discovered his body.

Per the outlet, authorities said it was not clear how long Duckworth, 44, had been deceased, though he had been seen the day before. Investigators noted there did not appear to be any signs of foul play or a suspicious death. His cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy, and a toxicology report — which can take 10 to 12 weeks — will also be conducted, police said.

As In Touch previously reported, Duckworth’s mother, Joni, confirmed his death in a Facebook post Thursday, August 13, writing that his “cause of death has yet to be determined.”

Duckworth first stepped into the reality TV spotlight on The Real World: Key West in 2006 before competing on six seasons of The Challenge: The Duel, The Gauntlet III, Cutthroat, Rivals, All Stars 2 and All Stars 3. He emerged as a two-time champion, winning both Cutthroat and Rivals.

His death came less than two weeks after Duckworth’s final Instagram post, shared on August 2, celebrating a Challenge Mania event in his hometown of Minneapolis alongside fellow alums Rachel Robinson, Brad Fiorenza, Tina Barta and Mark Long. “The fans are what keep us coming out!” he captioned the Instagram post, and thanked supporters for their “stories of courage, inspiration & joy.”

Barta paid tribute to Duckworth in an emotional Instagram post, reflecting on the bond they formed through The Challenge. “We shared an experience that very few people will ever fully understand, and somewhere along the way, it became more than a show or an adventure,” she wrote. “It became friendship. It became history. It became family.”

Barta added, “How blessed am I to be surprised by your visit to Challengemania where I got to hug and kiss you one last time.”
