After a KSAT-12 reporter had been off the air for about a week, the journalist explained her absence in a video she posted on Instagram.

“Good Morning San Antonio” reporter Hannah Gonzales said she broke her foot while she was vacationing in California earlier this month. The native San Antonian was visiting her fiancé, who lives and works in California.

Gonzales reported for a TV station in Fresno, California before returning to the Alamo City in May, when she joined KSAT. Before posting her video update on Wednesday, Gonzales had been absent from her station’s newscasts for about a week, aside from a pre-recorded segment that aired last Monday.

She said she plans to return to work on Tuesday.

Her injury comes at a busy time in Gonzales’ life: She recently celebrated her four-month anniversary reporting in the Alamo City, and she’s getting married in six months.

“I’ve been going at 1,000 miles per hour, and everyone keeps telling me, ‘well maybe this is your sign that you physically needed to slow down,'” Gonzales said in the video.

She said the hardest part about being injured is having to take a break and not being able to care for her dog, who recently had surgery on his leg.

“I just, like I said, want to try to be super cautious and not rush, because I do want to be in heels for my wedding,” she said.

Gonzales is on track to be recovered by then. She said her doctor told her it’ll take three months for the foot to heal and that she can start walking on it in four weeks. She said slowing down hasn’t been easy, but she’s stocked up on puzzles and books.

Gonzales said she doesn’t need surgery, and she didn’t sprain her ankle – which she said her doctor told her is common alongside a broken bone. Gonzales credited Pilates with her good fortune, saying the strength and stability work might have helped her avoid more damage.

For her planned return to the KSAT newsroom this week, Gonzales said she’ll be sporting pink crutches and a pink scooter.
