The wife of longtime NFL coach Eric Bieniemy was shot at their home on Sunday evening.

The wife of the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator was shot Sunday night at the couple’s home in Virginia, sources told ESPN. She has been hospitalized with serious injuries. Eric Bieniemy was away from home, with the Chiefs at the start of training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, at the campus of Missouri Western State. The Chiefs were holding their second training camp practice.

The Chiefs have said that they are “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” but did not provide further details.

Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalized in Northern Virginia. She was shot at her home in Loudon County, Virginia.

Eric Bieniemy previously coached for the Washington Commanders, who have a team facility in Loudon, Virginia. Police in Loudon County confirmed that a person had been hospitalized with “serious injuries” but did not disclose the person’s identity.

“Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Pau said Monday that police arrived at a home located on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Asburn, Virginia, at 7:32 p.m. ET on Sunday night,” the outlet reported.

Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs this offseason

Bieniemy returned to the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason, once again teaming up with Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co. He is back as the team’s offensive coordinator. Bieniemy previously served as the offensive coordinator of the Chiefs from 2018 to 2022.
