Chris Rock is perfectly fine not attending the Oscars again.

In a new interview with Variety, the 61-year-old actor looked back at getting slapped on stage during the 2022 Academy Awards by Will Smith after making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Four years later, Chris was asked how he feels now about the incident.

“You know, to answer your question a little bit, I wish nothing would have happened. And also, I don’t want to say anything that takes any attention away from Rosalind [Green] and how good she is in this movie,” Chris said of his new movie Misty Green, which he stars in, wrote, and directed.

“It’s a crazy world,” he continued. “We walk by homeless people. There’s all sorts of s–t going on right now. Me having a bad day is not the biggest — it’s not that important.”

Chris also addressed the possibility of hosting the Oscars again in the future, admitting that he believes his time as passed. He’s hosted the ceremony twice – first in 2005 then again in 2016.

“When people answer those questions, they’re being disrespectful to the people that got the gig,” he said. “They have great hosts. Conan O’Brien is amazing. Nikki Glaser is amazing on the Golden Globes. I’m not going to say never, but my time might have passed, honestly.

He went on to say that, as of right now, he doesn’t plan on attending another Oscars ceremony, unless he’s nominated.

“I’m not getting nominated. The only way I’ll go back is if I’m nominated, and I’m not getting nominated,” Chris said. “And that’s OK. We’ll deal with that if it happens. Like, let’s manage expectations.”
