Rosie O’Donnell appeared on The Late Late Show and publicly expressed support for Macklemore after the rapper was booted from Ed Sheeran’s tour.

The former talk show host discussed the ongoing controversy with the British singer-songwriter, who she says “made a very bad mistake” by axing his opening act for expressing support for Palestine during a performance on September 5. Since then, the Shape of You singer has faced criticism from fans and celebs alike.

Rosie’s comments on the controversy came after a tearful Ed Sheeran broke his silence on ‘catastrophic’ Gaza violence and apologized to fans during one of his shows.

During the interview with Irish television presenter Patrick Kielty, the 64-year-old comedian and actor weighed in on the decision to drop Macklemore from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour.

“The fact that Ed Sheeran hired Macklemore, knowing who Macklemore is, that he has been a staunch proponent of the ending of this genocide, and of the freedom for the Palestinian people, which I believe myself as well, and I stand beside him in solidarity as so many artists do.”

“But he was brave and bold before anyone else was. And I admire him for that and for his courage, and I think Ed Sheeran made a really bad mistake.”

She went on to say, “And he will come to understand the ramifications of siding with a billionaire elite and supporting genocide rather than the people who are saying, ‘This is wrong. We will not stand for it.'”

“We are human beings and each human life matters, and that’s the most important thing,” Rosie concluded.

During her appearance on the Irish television program, Rosie also spoke about her long-running feud with Donald Trump and provided an update on her citizenship status after relocating to Ireland in January 2025. She also confirmed she would return to the States once the 80-year-old president was out of office.

In response to being kicked off Ed Sheeran’s tour, Macklemore announced The Free Palestine Tour, which will kick off in Dublin on October 26, with the proceeds of the shows going to organizations that support Palestine and the Free Palestine movement.

In a post shared on Instagram with a flyer for the charity event, the 43-year-old performer wrote, “If these last couple of weeks have shown us anything, it’s that something has shifted over the last three years. There has been a collective awakening around Palestinian liberation, the power of billionaires that try to censor that call, and what we expect from artists right now.”

He continued, “It’s 2026. Being apolitical during a genocide doesn’t work anymore. People are asking artists to show up, educate themselves, and be in community. To use the stage for more than entertainment.”

In what appeared to be a direct jab aimed at Ed and the billionaire owner of Gillette Stadium, Robert Kraft, Macklemore went on to write, “What happened to me is bigger than one artist or one stage. When the billionaire class can decide which voices are allowed on stage and which ones are too dangerous to hear, everyone should be paying attention.”
