It took just one season for a WNBA player to decide that it was time to hang up her sneakers.

Jordan Harrison of the Portland Fire announced on Monday that she is retiring from the game.

“Thank you, Portland, for such an amazing year. Coming into this, I really had no expectations. I just wanted to give myself a chance and prove myself right. I’m so glad I did because I met so many amazing people and made connections that will last a lifetime,” Harrison wrote on Instagram.

After thanking Portland and reflecting on her time in the pros, Harrison shared the big personal news that she’s decided to end her basketball career.

“With that being said, I have decided to step away from playing basketball. This decision was not easy, but I have so much peace in it. I truly feel like God is calling me into a new season and has something bigger in store for my life. I trust Him and the plans He has for me, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next,” Harrison added.

Harrison fulfilled a dream to play in the WNBA despite being undrafted. She didn’t hear her name in the 2026 WNBA Draft, but the Fire, returning to the WNBA after 24 years, signed her to a training camp contract before elevating her to the main roster.

Portland waived her early in the campaign, though she later returned to the team on a standard contract.

A product of the West Virginia Mountaineers basketball program, Harrison averaged just 5.1 points in her rookie season, but was among the top playmakers with the ball, dishing out 4.2 assists through 16 games (including two starts).

The Fire won just 17 games in their first season back in the league, finishing ninth in the standings and missing the playoffs.
