Andrew Tate has been indicted for the statutory rape and trafficking of an underage girl in Romania.

The social-media influencer, 39, is already facing a string of sex-abuse charges in the UK and is awaiting extradition from the US after his arrest in Florida on July 18.

He was arrested alongside Tristan Tate, 38, his brother, who has also been indicted by Romanian prosecutors for complicity in child trafficking and money laundering.

The former kick-boxers, who have dual US and British citizenship, are currently in a Miami jail fighting extradition, but were previously based mainly in Romania since 2017.

Romanian prosecutors said the Tates recruited their victims by seducing them and falsely claiming to want a relationship or marriage, before forcing them to produce pornographic content for a webcam business.

They have denied all wrongdoing.

“We will examine every aspect of [the indictment[ with the same level of scrutiny and we will challenge any evidential, procedural or legal deficiencies through the appropriate judicial process,” said Eugen Vidineac, a Romanian lawyer for the Tates, in a statement.

“Our clients continue to reject the allegations against them.”

According to the new indictment, Andrew Tate took advantage of the “obvious vulnerability” of a 15-year-old girl when he began a relationship with her in 2012, Romanian organised crime prosecutors (DIICOT) said.

He recruited her for sexual exploitation by using emotional blackmail, constant surveillance and physical aggression, prosecutors said.

They alleged that the “manosphere” content creators produced and disseminated pornographic material for financial benefit, making more than $1.25m (£925,000) through sexual exploitation.

The brothers tried to launder the funds by buying four luxury cars, prosecutors added.

Andrew Tate is alleged to have trafficked the young girl from Luton, England, to several properties in Romania, where she was made to produce pornographic material for social media.

Tristan Tate was an accessory, the unit said, using physical aggression to coerce the victim, and offered a witness money, gifts and legal aid in exchange for their agreement not to give statements.

In separate charges brought by the British Crown Prosecution Service, Andrew Tate is facing seven counts of rape, three counts of sex trafficking, three counts of assault, and 19 more charges relating to “indecent images of a child and extreme pornography”.

Tristan Tate will face one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of sex trafficking.

The brothers were in court last week as they attempted to secure bail in the US to fight the charges, but the British embassy filed court documents asking the judge to keep them both in custody, claiming there was a risk that they would flee.

The British authorities have until Sept 16 to submit a full extradition request.

The Tates could be tried in absentia in Romania, but the trial will not start immediately. Under Romanian law, the indictment is sent to a preliminary court chamber, where a judge will inspect the case files to ensure legality.
