Bride walks down the aisle, not prepared for what goes wrong seconds later

What should have been a picture-perfect walk down the aisle became something else entirely for one California bride.

Justine Hitson, 31, was preparing to marry her fiancé in front of 60 of their closest friends and family at Hacienda del Secreto in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Hitson told Newsweek she had been planning the wedding for well over a year.

“Since it was a destination wedding and everyone was staying together, there were so many moving pieces and I put a lot into making the entire week special for everyone,” she said.

When it was time to walk down the aisle, Hitson was arm in arm with her father.

She said she had been extremely nervous leading up to the moment and, in truth, had felt anxious for most of the day.

Hitson shared the special moment of her walking down the aisle in a beautiful strapless white wedding gown in a clip on TikTok (@justinehitson).

As the pair neared the guests, Hitson’s veil got caught on the aisle runner laid across the beach.

Hitson yelped and was nearly pulled back, but her father was quick to free the veil.

She said her first reaction was confusion as she wondered why she had stopped moving.

Once she realized her veil had become snagged, she couldn’t help but laugh.

“I had put so much work into making everything perfect, and of course something like this would happen to me right in the middle of walking down the aisle,” Hitson said. “It honestly made the moment so much more me, and once I started laughing, all of the nerves I had been carrying that day just disappeared.”

According to Hitson, this was just one of the many things that went wrong on her big day.

She said technical issues affected the music at multiple key moments, while the couple’s first dance did not go as planned.

Her dress was so tight that it left her ribs bruised and she was still in pain the following day.

There was also unexpected guest drama that no amount of planning could have anticipated.

“There were definitely moments where I thought, ‘Seriously, what else can happen?’” Hitson said. “But now we have some pretty funny stories from it.”

Despite the string of mishaps, Hitson said the wedding was still beautiful and filled with moments she wouldn’t change.

“My entire life, if something weird is going to happen, something is going to go wrong, or someone is going to have bad luck, somehow it’s usually me,” she said.

“I’ve learned that sometimes you just have to laugh it off, and this wedding was definitely no exception,” she continued. “It wasn’t the perfectly planned wedding I had pictured in my head, but I married my best friend surrounded by the people we love, and that’s what mattered.”
