A cause of death has been determined for influencer Mara Flávia.
On April 18, the content creator — whose legal name was Mara Araújo — died in a drowning incident while participating in Ironman Texas, a triathlon competition in The Woodlands, Texas. The competition was composed of a 2.4-mile swim portion, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run, and during the swim, Araújo fell beneath the water before her body was later pulled to the surface by the Woodlands Fire Department.
Araújo’s cause of death was listed as drowning, and the manner was ruled accidental, according to online Montgomery County Medical Examiner records viewed by PEOPLE.
Araújo had over 60,000 Instagram followers and was known for sharing fitness content online.
In a statement on Facebook after the incident, Ironman Texas wrote, “We send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the athlete and will offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. Our gratitude goes out to the first responders for their assistance.”
Araújo’s sister, Melissa, also shared a public statement acknowledging her death on April 20.
“You lived life intensely. You were always synonymous with determination, with courage — with a strength that seemed too vast to be contained within you,” she wrote in the caption of an Instagram post. “You never did anything halfway; perhaps that is why you left such a profound mark on the lives of everyone who crossed your path.”
Melissa went on to describe her late sister as her “other half,” adding, “A piece of me is gone, and I will have to learn to live without it. And it hurts in a way I cannot even explain. It is a strange silence, a void I knew existed all along — as if the world itself had lost a little of its color.”
The same day, Araújo’s partner, Rodrigo Ferrari, shared an “open letter” to the late internet star on his own Instagram account.

“My love, I know today marks the third day without you, but only now have I found the inner strength to write to you — to pay you a tribute worthy of your greatness,” he began his message. “I never imagined I could feel such pain and sorrow over someone’s passing as I do right now; the closest I ever came was when I lost my father at the age of 11. But this is different, and it hurts more — much more. Waking up without you by my side is incredibly, incredibly difficult. I want my ‘Good morning, Bear,’ our kiss, our affection.”
“I hope that everyone, someday, gets to experience a true love like ours,” he continued. “It is something so powerful that I cannot put it into words, yet it will continue to beat within me eternally.”
