Hayden Panettiere has died at the age of 36. After her death was first reported on August 16, reports have now emerged that her potential cause of death was cardiac arrest following an apparent overdose.

Authorities were alerted to the scene after a friend of the Scream actress called 911, reporting an “unresponsive female,” TMZ reported. First responders arrived at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, the outlet said, and attempted to resuscitate the actress with “advanced cardiac life support.”People reported that police and EMS personnel arrived at the residence at around 1:50 p.m. local time on Sunday, August 16. “Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a spokesperson said. “The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office,” went on the spokesperson. “The preliminary investigation has not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. An acquaintance of Ms. Panettiere placed the 911 call.”

She was reportedly pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m. local time. Per dispatch audio obtained by People, the cause of death was “cardiac arrest” after an apparent “overdose.”

Panettiere’s father, Skip Panettiere, first announced his daughter’s death, telling People, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden.”

“She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her—and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” he went on.

An investigation into her death is reportedly still “ongoing.”

Panettiere, known for her roles in Heroes, Nashville, and Bring It On: All or Nothing, released a memoir earlier this year titled This Is Me: A Reckoning. The actress opened up about her past experiences of drug and alcohol abuse and rehab, as well as alleged sexual abuse incidents throughout her career.
