Dr. Oz visibly struggled with his words during an interview on Fox News, sparking backlash from viewers who called him out for the issue.

The former television personality, who now serves as the White House Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services under Donald Trump, has become another controversial member of the president’s cabinet since the administration came into power.

After previously being slammed for not understanding how insurance works, the retired cardiothoracic surgeon is now facing further critical response after he opened up about phone calls from the president in the early morning hours. As he chatted with Kayleigh McEnany on the network’s Saturday in America, he stumbled over his words.

“So..Trump…what we did with the uh…the pres, the president’s h…when he calls me at you know, five in the morning, the most common thing he asks by the way, is, ‘Are you awake?’” he said.

As he visibly struggled to get his words out, many viewers honed in on it. After the clip surfaced online, some slammed him, noting that he appeared to keep tripping over his words as he tried to figure out what he could or couldn’t say.

“Assessment: Severe answer deficiency. Intervention: discontinue microphone,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), while another said “Blathering fool. Tune him out!”

“All that and he didn’t actually say anything,” another fumed, while a fourth joked, “the wizard of Oz is running out of tricks.”

Others claimed he lacks qualifications for the role, adding that the president had put many unqualified individuals into powerful positions during his second term.

“This is what happens when a president builds an administration for the cameras instead of for the job,” one person said.

“Mr. Crudite wants retirees to forgo their retirement. This is why you don’t elect a reality TV star to the highest office in the land, because they will install all the clowns,” a second added.

Another pointed out that Trump was clearly not respecting boundaries with a lack of respect for Oz’s personal time away from the job.

“In other words, the president does not respect his sleep time,” they said.

Oz has faced scrutiny alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy throughout the second Trump administration, as the two men hold powerful positions determining issues within the health community.

One particular complaint against Oz has been a fundamental lack of understanding about health insurance works, after a rant about healthcare fraud on Fox News over the summer.

On a panel on the network, Oz ranted about alleged healthcare fraud, claiming millions who had signed up for Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, were not actively using their insurance, which he argued was a form of fraud.
