Meghan Markle’s father Thomas Markle arrested in Florida
Thomas Markle Sr. was arrested this morning in Florida on charges related to child sex abuse material. He has been living in a rehabilitation facility in the state after undergoing a leg amputation in the Philippines.
The Daily Mail was the first to report today that the FBI arrested Thomas Sr. at the Maravida Senior Living care home in Lakeland. He is reportedly currently in custody in Tampa.

The news comes just a few weeks after Thomas Markle Jr. (the son of Thomas Markle Sr. and half-brother to Meghan) revealed that he had found “hundreds, if not thousands” of child sex abuse images in boxes at his father’s home in Cebu City, Philippines. “What I saw made me sick to the stomach—all this stuff was just dumped on me, and I didn’t know what to do,” Markle Jr. told The Sun. Investigations were then launched in both the Philippines and the United States.
Earlier this week, Filipino police shared a major update regarding their investigation into Markle Sr. “Initial findings of the Anti-Cybercrime Group on the digital devices, they were able to identify and able to find that there are several Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials,” Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Acting Director, Major General Wilson C. Asueta, told reporters in a press conference. According to Manila Bulletin, “The items submitted for examination included nine mobile phones, three SD cards, five hard drives and a camera. A non-digital device was also among the materials.”
While the Sussexes have yet to comment publicly on today’s news, Meghan shared a rare public statement after it was reported that her father was being investigated.
“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” Meghan said. She also shared that she was was made aware of allegations against her father several years ago via a letter sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. “That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated,” she said.
She ended her statement, “I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families. Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.”
Thomas Markle previously told the Daily Mail that the accusations against him are “sick lies.”
