Paul Mescal’s ex-girlfriend Phoebe Bridgers has spilled all on their romance and sudden breakup on her upcoming third studio album, Lost Weekend.

An early review of the record reveals the singer/songwriter has penned some emotional lyrics about the actor, and made a major swipe at his current girlfriend Gracie Abrams.

Paul, 30, ended his two-year relationship with three-time Grammy winner Phoebe, 31, in 2022. He went on to start dating singer Gracie, 26, who has often referred to herself as a Phoebe superfan, in 2024.

Phoebe’s anticipated new album, which is also dedicated to her troubled relationship with her late father, is packed full of references to Paul, a review from The Guardian has revealed.

The title track confirms that she was engaged to the actor during their two-year relationship, with the lyric ‘I’m supposed to be married but I called it off.’

But it’s a cutting line in The Governor’s Waltz that could be interpreted as a swipe at Gracie: ‘She can pretend to be me. Since she took my place in my bed, on that stage.’

Fans have often compared Phoebe and Gracie’s shared diary-style lyricism and back in 2024 Gracie revealed her own details about Paul and his ex on her album, The Secret of Us.

Whilst she didn’t use names, Gracie sang about a relationship throughout the record and made references to her partner’s former girlfriend.

On the track Normal Thing, she sings, ‘When did you slip through my fingers, did I ever have you? Was I just a placeholder to fill the hole inside you? … Nothing left to say ’cause you’re not over her, now, are you?’

She also appeared to reference Phoebe in her song Risk, singing, ‘Know you had a girl, but it didn’t work out. Know you bought a house, but you had to move out…’

Paul – a self-confessed Bridgers fan prior to their first meeting – began dating Phoebe in 2020 – shortly after the BBC drama Normal People turned him into a household name.

After delighting fans with a two-year romance, the two suddenly split in 2022. Just weeks later Phoebe fuelled romance rumours with comedian Bo Burnham, who she is still in a relationship with.

Paul meanwhile spoke about settling down in a September 2025 interview with Rolling Stone.

‘I would love to have a family,’ he gushed to the magazine. ‘I’m not like, “I want them tomorrow,” but I would love to have kids.’

The actor was more coy when asked directly about Gracie though, as he said he was determined to keep his personal life private as much as possible.

‘I don’t know how to answer that,’ he told the magazine when asked whether there was a specific moment when he and Gracie decided to take their relationship public.

‘I actually do have an answer, but everything to do with that is deeply precious to me and I don’t want to.… This isn’t … I don’t really … umm … I want to protect those things fundamentally.’

Gracie – who is the daughter of Star Wars director JJ Abrams – and the Irish heart-throb made their first red carpet appearance at the History Of Sound premiere in May 2025.

The pair were first linked a year earlier when they were pictured sharing an intimate date at BRAT Restaurant in London.

During their inaugural summer together they attended a string of UK festivals and were spotted on low-key London dates.

Fast forward to October 2024 and Paul publicly showed his support for his singer girlfriend’s career by showing up at her New York concert, where he was spotted singing and dancing.

A month later Gracie returned the favour, walking the red carpet at Paul’s premiere for Gladiator 2.

Since May 2025, Gracie has been photographed numerous times wearing a curious band on her left-ring finger, prompting further speculation about the relationship.

‘The speculation has been kind of mad for the last x amount of years,’ Paul lamented to GQ last October.

‘I’m not comfortable inviting any access into that part of my life. How I am in my private life is so precious to me because I get very little of it, and it might be public interest, but it’s not public-obligated information.’
