Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk said the decision would allow the military to react more quickly to unidentified aerial objects by taking into account their trajectories, speeds, the locations where they violate airspace, and their responses to attempts to establish contact.

According to him, the measure is intended to shorten reaction time against drones and missiles approaching Poland from the direction of Russia.

ISW said Warsaw made the decision after another Russian strike near the Ukrainian-Polish border.

During the day on Sept. 28, a Russian jet-powered Geran-5 strike drone hit a truck parking area near the Yahodyn international checkpoint in Volyn Oblast, less than 1.5 kilometers from the Polish border.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that because of the attack, Polish air defense systems were put on alert and military aircraft were scrambled, although Polish airspace was not violated.

Earlier, on Sept. 13, the Russian army struck a gas station near the Yahodyn checkpoint. On the same day, Russian forces also attacked the locomotive of a passenger train in Volyn Oblast with a drone just two kilometers from the Polish border.

Because of that drone attack, European politicians traveling out of Ukraine had to evacuate from a train. Among them were Boris Johnson, security advisers from European governments, members of the German Bundestag, diplomats and researchers. The train had been stopped in advance.

Ukrainian Railways later clarified that a diplomatic train had been at Yahodyn station shortly before the locomotive was hit. Another train that was at the station at the exact moment of the attack was carrying former CIA Director David Petraeus.
