A new mom from Minnesota believed she could trust her husband to dress appropriately for the birth of their daughter.

She was wrong.

Caroline Erickson, 27, told Newsweek that when she and her husband Evan, also 27, arrived at the hospital, he was wearing a sweatshirt.

“By the time he took it off, I was obviously way too focused on giving birth to pay attention to what he was wearing underneath,” she said.

Caroline, who has been with Evan since high school, said there has been more than one occasion where she’s stepped in to steer him toward better style choices.

“There have been plenty of times when we’re about to leave the house and I have to make him change because something doesn’t match or he’ll somehow be wearing Christmas socks in the middle of summer,” Caroline said.

It wasn’t until the new parents got home, with their daughter Elsie in tow, when Caroline was looking through photos of her birth experience.

In a photo of Elise laying on Caroline’s chest, and Evan leaning over in admiration at his growing family, Caroline saw her husband’s choice of shirt.

On the front, the shirt read “NEVER AGAIN”, with the word “drinking” faded so heavily it was barely visible.

“When I noticed it, I honestly just had to laugh because it was so on brand for him,” Caroline said. “I know he didn’t give it a second thought when he put it on.”

Caroline posted the photo on TikTok (@ccarolineerickson). On the back, the shirt reads, “Hand me another beer,” she clarified in the caption.

“[I] zoomed in on his shirt because I thought it was funny, but I definitely didn’t expect the reaction it got,” Caroline said.

The post has attracted attention within a matter of days, with more than 688,000 views.

In the comments, many other moms shared stories about the ridiculous or unexpected things their own husbands wore to the hospital when they were having their babies.

“My husband wore a Toy Story shirt that said ‘I’m a Nervous Rex,’” one user wrote.

“My husband wore a Star Wars shirt, but I was in labor so long she ended up being born on Star Wars day, so I wasn’t so mad afterwards,” another wrote.

Caroline was amused by commenters’ stories and discovered she’s far from alone when it comes to dads’ “questionable” hospital outfits.

“At this point, I think ‘double-check what your husband is wearing before leaving for the hospital’ needs to be added to the birth prep checklist,” she said.
